Big Local SW11

WoW Mums are taking an active part in Big Local SW11 project as a group as well as local individual residents.

WoW Enterprise Club

WoW Mums have formed the first Enterprise Club in Wandsworth in September 2012 to help local mothers set up their small businesses and become self-employed. We have been supported  by Job Centre Plus with a small grant  to set up this club. With the help of relevant speakers and our collective networking and brainstorming, we have helped several Mums to start with their ideas for self-employment. Our enterprise club workshops are on every second Friday of the month from 11am to 1pm in 200 Pennethorne House, SW11 2SH.

Spacemax AGM

SpaceMax AGM is on Monday 22nd April 2013 from 7pm in DRCA Business Centre in Doddington, Battersea. You are all invited to see how we manage to  tackled overcrowding in Wandsworth.

WoW Donation to York Gardens Library

WoW Mums are very pleased to have been able to raise £3200.00 for the friends of the York Gardens Library charity in one year, by organising Drama and Taekwondo classes for local children, generously funded by Thomas’s Schools Foundation. Deputy Mayor Nicola Nardelli commented that WoW Mums always deliver what they set out to do and fulfill their promises.

Sonia Mills, Chair of Friends of York Gardens Library charity accepted the cheque and said that it will be used to support the free GCSEs tutoring in the library amongst other services for local children.

ITV News:

Battersea Park Adventure Playground

Wandsworth Council is planning to start charging children £2.50 to play in Adventure Playground from Saturday, 2nd July 2011. We have organised a peaceful protest by offering free face painting to children who cannot pay to play. The children will interview other children, film the event and produce a DVD from 11am. Bring a picnic and your children.

We are jubilant that we have to cancel this event, because the Council decided not to charge entrance fee from July 2011.

Campaign Against Pay to Play

Wandsworth Borough Council is planning to charge £2.50 for our children to play in Battersea Park Adventure Playground from October 2011. We think charging children to play is unfair, instead we should be encouraging children to stay active. Please sign our petition if you oppose this decision. Copy and paste this link please:

Saving York Gardens Library

The WBC General Purposes Committee agreed the staff reduction in York Gardens Library from 4.5 to 2. WoW are going to attend the Council Meeting at York Gardens Library on Tuesday, 22nd March at 6.30pm to hear how is the 4th option going to be implemented.

Since W.O.W Mums helped keep the YG Library open and became stakeholders in Friends of York Gardens Library, we have strived to help  and keep it open with help of volunteers. We found a solution in recruiting volunteers from Job Centre and started our own W.O.W Work Club. The launch is on Friday, 24th June from 11am – 1pm in KLS cafe. Guests of Honour are Cllr Wendy Speck and Jo White, Job Centre Borough Partnership Manager.
